Narrow Minded Christians

I love my Christian brotherhood. I truly do. But I get so put off by the narrowmindedness of some. The Great Commission is something that is a hot topic. Some say that we have the gifts of the Holy Spirit today, while others say it died with the apostles. I’m of the mind that it is still here, today, for us to hold and command. But I’m apparently in the minority.

Do I care? Nope. Do I believe? Yep. Period…question answered. Count me in the camp that says God never stops working in us. Count me in the camp that says NO to cornering Him. Count me in the camp that says God is beyond our comprehension, and capable of anything if we just turn to Him in earnest.

Poo to the naysayers. God is always and forever bigger than we can imagine. And if He sees fit to equip someone with powers from the Holy Spirit…who are we to say NO!

Narrow-minded Christians are the worst thing to happen to Christianity! May we bless them, and cultivate in them a deeper understanding than their doctrines would allow them to behold. May the Holy Spirit work in them such that they become uncomfortable with their comfort. Amen.

Christian Parasites

Sometimes one needs to vent. Sometimes not. To vent or not to vent. I’ll vent.

Those televangelists who use God, Jesus, and the need for salvation to make a living – a very good living – by peddling their DVD’s, programs and the like – should rot in hell. I share an equal disdain for the – won’t say it. I’ll stop here with naming names and just let the fruit of what they are all about speak for itself.

Ever been to a great Christian site, filled with inspirational stuff, only to see that every other page or article encouraged you to buy the DVD…the T-Shirt…the mug….the WHATEVER…it’s all about making bucks. They see new Christians as easy prey for hustling stuff.

OK…I have an attitude, but I feel as if it’s not far from Jesus’ attitude when he overturned the tables of the money-changers, those selling doves and other sacrificial animals. Jesus had disdain for those who made a living off of the needs of others to reconcile themselves with God. Parasites!

If you can fill in the blanks as to who and what ministry fits the bill, that’s great. If you can’t…please pray for discernment.

Why Lobsters?

Lobsters are shellfish. Shellfish were forbidden under the old law. For that matter, so was pork. I don’t like lobster, but I love pork sausage. Lobsters are prettier than pigs, so lobster it is.

In Acts 10: 9-16 Peter has a vision:

9About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. 10He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. 11He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. 13Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”

14“Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”

15The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”

16This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.

We’re free from the old law and new creatures in Christ. Not only was Peter’s vision meant to take the Gospel to gentiles and Jews alike, but it tells us we’re not defiled by was goes in, rather, by what comes out.

So, those pretty lobsters signify our release from the old, and rebirth in the new. And as lobster is a delicacy, so is our Christian freedom.

Jesus Christ lives here today…through the Holy Spirit!

No matter what denomination, one must acknowledge that Christ lives, today. If you don’t buy into this notion…scrap your Christianity. You’re just a philosopher…without hope. Duh!
